ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
History is often regarded as ‘His-story’, ‘his’ being a representative term for mankind. However, today the connotation of “his” is used in a broader sense, with it being significant of anything or any phenomenon that has a story connected to it. From the history of the universe to the history of this introduction, everything is recorded with respect to the fourth dimension, “time”. The word ‘history’ relates to the Greek term “historia”, which stands for the knowledge acquired through investigation.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The word “Punjabi” means “five waters,” referring to the five major rivers found in the region where Punjabi language originated. The script of Punjabi language is Gurmukhi which literally means ‘from the mouth of Gurus’. It is an Indo-Aryan language like many other modern languages of South Asia. It is spoken by as many as 140 million people, meaning that it is one of the top ten languages in the world by number of speakers. Punjabi is one of the 22 regional languages of India notified in the eight schedule of the Constitution of India. It is an official language in Punjab but also spoken in major parts of Pakistan and in small pockets of most of Indian states. It is also a second language in Canada’s Ontario and Vancouver B.C. Majority of Punjabi population in some colonies of Surrey in Canada, South Hall in England also speak Punjabi.
It trains students to understand and appreciate the nuances of the language and literature in a better way. Punjabi Sahit Sabha encourages students to participate actively in Competitive Exams, cultural Activity and other competitions.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
विद्या ददाति विनयं, विनयाद् याति पात्रताम्।
पात्रत्वात् धनमाप्नोति, धनात् धर्मं ततः सुखम्।।
Meaning – Education leads to sensibility, sensibility attains character/qualification, from that comes wealth and from wealth (one does) good deeds, from that (comes) joy.
Established in 1971 since the inception of the college, the Department of Sanskrit promotes the appreciation of this rich and scientific language, crucial to the understanding of several Indian cultural, philosophical and religious traditions. There is didactic quality in all of Sanskrit literature but, the thrust areas of the course are Vedic and Upanishadic lore, history of ancient Indian cultures, philosophy, Arthashastra and other areas of Indology. Sanskrit is said to be the mother of language in the living world. It is the divined language for all sorts of perils and also a means for attaining all aims of human life.
Teaching Sanskrit as an Elective Subject in B.A., Lend a helping hand to students enriches in various ways through a number of educational activities conducted by the Department. The department of Sanskrit has always been proactive and has invited eminent scholars to disseminate their knowledge and their expertise and holds Seminars/Webinars on Vedic texts, Philosophy of Yoga and Social Justice in Ancient Legal System. The department also holds other activities as declamation, shlok-gaan, essay writing, quiz competition etc. The department has been conceived with the ambitious objective of developing of expertise and skilled manpower in Sanskrit. The aim and vision of the department of Sanskrit is to provide a platform for students to gain insightfulness in to corpus of Sanskrit and to utilize their skill in life.
