Management of degradable waste
Fostering environment consciousness is the ambition of S.L. Bawa DAV College, Batala. To keep the campus neat and clean waste bins have been placed at suitable locations in the college campus. NSS volunteers clean the campus by organizing various activities in line with waste management. Keeping up with environment norms metal, plastic and paper waste is sold off to scrap dealers for reuse. A wide range of waste such as broken glass,
used packing paper etc. is disposed-off in a pit made for this purpose.
Biodegradable waste is disposed-off in a pit for decomposition. Horticulture dry waste management units are placed at strategic points for natural degradation of botanical waste to produce organic fertilizer.
Liquid waste is managed efficiently by digging soak pits and septic tanks. The chemical waste of laboratories, particularly chemistry block is drained in a pitas per the prescribed norms.
E-waste is disposed off to authorized dealers to reutilize the components or dismantle them as per the prescribed standards.
Horticulture Waste Horticultural waste refers to tree trunks and branches, plant parts and trimmings generated during the maintenance and pruning of trees and plants all over. We manage the Horticulture waste by storing the waste in the open lid cages.
The college actively organizes cleaning drives from time to time under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” mission to create awareness and consciousness among students and staff.
